Iceland accommodation tax reinstated

Nightly charge for stays in hotels, B&B, Airbnb and similar

The Icelandic Directorate of Internal Revenue has reintroduced its Accommodation Tax from 1 January 2024. And providers of eligible accommodation should be registered with the Agency by 5 April.

The charge is as follows:

  • Hotels: ISK 666 (approx €4.50) per room
  • Camping: ISK 333 per person
  • Cruise ships: ISK 1,000 per person

The levy is per booking irrespective of the numbers of guests on the booking. Registrations with the Directorate is online.

The tax aims to generate funds for sustainability programs and reduce over tourism’s environmental impact.
