New Caledonia to raise VAT

Consumption tax hikes announced ahead of final independence vote

The French Pacific territory of New Caledonia is to raise its Value Added Tax rates in 2022, as follows

  • Jan 2022: 6% rate on local services is to increase to 11% on 1 Jan
  • July 2022: 11% standard rate on goods is to rise to 16% (rate to be confirmed)
  • July 2022: 3% reduced rate of certain supplies to increase to up to 5%

The tettitory is due an independence vote in December.
