Portugal delays VAT returns

Portugal has confirmed further delays to Value Added Tax deadlines in recognition of the continued disruption from the COVID-19 health and economic crisis.

The usual annual 2020 VAT return (IES) has been delayed until 22 July 2021. Ordinarily, it would have been due by 15 July 2021. It contains summary data from all VAT returns for statistical purposes, and includes corporate income tax information. The VAT data is mostly related to domestic transactions. Non-resident are not mandated to complete an annual return.

Portugal plans mandatory SAF-T Accounting filing from January 2022. It first introduced SAF-T in 2009.

If you need to complete Portuguese VAT or other tax returns, VAT Calc’s VAT Filer can correctly complete any country filings with verified VAT or GST transactional data from our VAT Calculator or VAT Auditor tools.
