2023 Budget zeroes VAT on newspapers and rolls over temporary cut to gas and electricity
Ireland published its 2023 Budget on 27 September 2022. It included a number of VAT measures, including:
- Zero-rating of VAT on paper and digital newspapers and periodicals
- Extension of 9% VAT rate on gas and electricity to 28 February 2023 (was due to expire 31 October 2022)
- Zero-rating for range of medical supplies
The above measures come into place from 1 January 2023.
The Minister for Finance confirmed that there are no plans to extend the reduced 9% hospitality VAT rate beyond the current expiration date of 28 February 2023.
