Slovenia cuts VAT on domestic energy until May 2023 as inflation rises

Temporary VAT cut to 9.5% bill on domestic energy and electricity

Slovenia’s National Assembly has confirmed a VAT rate cut on gas bills from the standard VAT rate 22% to the reduced rate of 9.5%. The temporary reduction will be in place between 1 September 2022 and 31 May 2023.

This comes as inflation hit 11% in July, up from 10.4% in June.

Supplies included:

  • Electricity
  • Heating fuel
  • Natural gas
  • Biomass
  • Remote heating
  • Digital newspapers and journals (e-books are already at 5%)
